The nature of the statement delivered by him depicted adverse notions because it was strongly believed by Zhi Dun that Buddhism will lead towards pacifying China by means of peace and positive association. However, after restoration of peace under the dynasty of Tang, the individuals with power started to stand in opposition to Buddhism (Skirbekk 25). In the 845 CE, a strong imperial hold was established by Emperor Wu over China. With respect to Buddhism, it was felt by Tang Wu that the religion will start wearing out the strengths of people and their wealth will pilfers. Therefore, he decided to maintain the strong hold on China through removal of threats that have potential to make Wu fail. It was further believed by Tang Wu, that citizens can get corrupted by the religion of Buddhism and so he wanted to keep an even higher control over the people. So, the statement was written by him for eradicating the spread of Buddhism. Within the 819 CE, a leading scholar in Confucian and an official in Tang, named Han Yu, established a written memorial over the religion of Buddhism. If the statement had been written in later parts of the 7th century then the statement would have led towards corroboration of Emperor Wu’s statement. The document of this memorial clearly depicted that Han Yu stated Buddhism to be a cult involving barbaric individuals. Furthermore, he continued towards describing the way in which the dress of Buddha and his followers were and he depicted it to be negative and he further talked about the narrow way in life that Buddhists lived in (Sandell 346). This displayed the reason behind Wu being away from Buddhism and the reason here being that in the ancient times people did not live in the way and did not dress in the way that Buddha has depicted through his concept of dressing and living. Even though there were various imperial scholars from the Tang dynasty who completely stood against the Buddhist movements, there still existed a Tang official, Mi, who became to be a leading scholar of Buddhism.
